Jon Sadowski is an experienced professional with a diverse background in the fields of cybersecurity, technology, and education. He has been working at Suffolk County Community College since September 2017, where he currently holds the position of Specialist for the Cybersecurity & Information Assurance Program. In this role, Jon is responsible for managing the program’s infrastructure and supporting instruction. He has developed an architecture for an AWS-based virtualized environment, facilitating hands-on instruction and isolating threats to the college network.
Prior to his tenure at Suffolk County Community College, Jon worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory for over nine years. He served as an Advanced Technology Engineer within the Platform Services Team, responsible for enterprise-level backup and restoration of Windows and Linux servers, vulnerability management as well as enterprise-wide disaster recovery. During his time at Brookhaven, he also held the position of Deskside Support Team Lead, where he managed the workload for the Deskside Support Staff, provided technical support to laboratory personnel, and implemented process improvements.
Before joining Brookhaven National Laboratory, Jon worked as a Technical Support Specialist at BASCOM, where he provided Level 2 Network Support for remote locations running Linux-based Network Security Appliances. He also served as a System Administrator for the internal network, administering a Red Hat Linux Domain and resolving WAN and LAN connectivity issues.
Jon’s career journey also includes experience as a National Accounts Manager at Metro Door Inc., where he managed infrastructure installation and maintenance projects at retail facilities. Additionally, he served as the Head Coach of the Hofstra University Crew Club for nearly two years.
Jon holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Political Science/Secondary Education from Loyola College in Maryland, a Master of Science (M.S.) in Computer Information Systems – Information Assurance from the University of Maryland Global Campus, and a Diploma in Computer Network Security from The Chubb Institute. He has acquired various certifications, ISC2 SSCP, Splunk Certified Power User, and CompTIA certifications in CASP+, Network+, and A+,
Outside of his professional career, Jon actively volunteers as a Firefighter for the Sayville Fire Department, where he has served as the President of the Department and held various leadership roles. He also served as a Captain/Firefighter/EMT at the Greenlawn Fire Department earlier in his career.
Throughout his career, Jon has received several accolades, including the Instructor Excellence Award from Cisco and Spotlight Awards from Brookhaven National Laboratory, recognizing his exceptional contributions and dedication to his work.
